Can you still go camping from a smaller car? -featuring the ROBENS WOLFMOON 5XP
In today's video Sam and Amy take us through our compact camping set-up. In recent years, family and couple camping in comfort has become more challenging to do out of a standard-sized car. With people having to switch to larger SUVs, vans, trailers and even multiple cars to fit in tents, furniture and comfortable sleep gear.
In today's video, we wanted to demonstrate that by investing in some good quality equipment it is still possible to fit all the essentials into a standard-sized car!

    I had my first outing on Dartmoor in my Radon overnight. Really liked it, plenty of space. I found that it was easier to get the outer on fully but before tightening down to get under and attach the velcro to the poles. I was also slightly disappointed that the inner doors have just the one two way zip, the cost & weight difference to fit TWO two way zips would be minimal but would increase the usability. I've contacted Vango - re the extra zip(s), I look forward to their reply.

      Thanks for sharing your experience with the Vango F10 Radon! It’s great to hear that you enjoyed your first outing on Dartmoor and found the tent spacious. Your tip about attaching the velcro before tightening down the outer is really useful. We understand your point about the inner doors having only one two-way zip. It does seem like an additional zip could enhance usability without adding much cost or weight. It’s good to know you’ve contacted Vango about this let us know what they say. Thanks again for your insights and happy camping!

    I'm a bit concerned if there was a need to inform people they don't need to buy a van to carry their camping kit. People have been travelling in cars for years. I can get enough kit for myself in to the boot of a Ford Focus.

      Hi Walks With Olly, Thank you for your comment and for checking out the video. You raise a good point-people have been traveling with their camping gear in cars for years. However, in recent years, large 5-person tents have become significantly bigger and heavier, with many weighing over 56.8 kg and taking up considerable space. This can make them challenging for families to transport, load, and unload. We've noticed that many families have invested in larger vehicles, including vans and trailers, to accommodate their camping needs. The purpose of this video was to present an alternative that reduces the need for a large vehicle without sacrificing comfort and convenience.

    Hello. I want to buy a jacket for use in mountaineering. I looked Electron pro and microlight alpine jacket. I Decamped between the two. Which one do you recommend. Thank you

    • @tauntonleisure
      @tauntonleisure 4 дня назад

      The Electron Pro offers more warmth, making it an ideal choice for staying cozy both while walking and as a warm layer at camp. However, if you're looking for a jacket to use as part of your layering system throughout the day, especially under a waterproof shell, the Microlight is a better option due to its lower profile and streamlined fit.

    • @heyyoyof
      @heyyoyof 4 дня назад

      @@tauntonleisure Thank you for your reply. I'm looking to use it under a shell. Actually, I was thinking if the electron pro would also be under the shell, because I was also afraid of getting cold. Is the microlight enough for heating?

    • @tauntonleisure
      @tauntonleisure 4 дня назад

      @@heyyoyof You could use the Electron Pro under a waterproof jacket, but it is bulkier than the Microlight, so it depends on the fit of your outer layer. If the fit is too snug with the Electron Pro, the down won’t achieve its optimal loft and insulation. Unfortunately, it's tough to give a definitive answer since everyone experiences cold differently. If you are worried about getting cold, it might be safer to go with the Electron Pro. The Microlight is a great option for use with a waterproof jacket, and when layered correctly, it can perform well in colder conditions while you're active. However, it might not provide enough warmth when you're standing still. If you tend to run warm, the Microlight could be an excellent part of your layering system.

    • @heyyoyof
      @heyyoyof 4 дня назад

      @@tauntonleisure Thank you for your reply. I will use my preference in favor of microlight. I'm also going to ask a question about shell jackets. What do you think about Marmot minimalist pro? Do you have a review video about shell jackets? Unfortunately, I didn't see it.

    • @tauntonleisure
      @tauntonleisure 4 дня назад

       @heyyoyof Unfortunately, we don't carry Marmot's clothing, so I haven't had the opportunity to test it. We tend to focus on brands like Mountain Equipment, Rab, and Montane for our professional-grade shells.

    anyone can compare R2 TechFace and Nano Air?

    • @tauntonleisure
      @tauntonleisure 4 дня назад

      In my experience, the Nano Air isn't as warm or durable as the R2. However, the Nano Air offers a better weight-to-warmth ratio, making it an excellent option for those prioritizing lightweight gear without sacrificing too much warmth.

    • @Qrzychu92
      @Qrzychu92 4 дня назад

      @@tauntonleisure I think I will go with Nano Air, everybody seems to love it for the reasons I find important :) mostly breathabillity and beeing great at managing heat. The bag is nice but this iteration has the same flaws as the 2011 HP. The mesh centre ceiling just lets condensation drip in. The solid doors do not permit enough airflow in warm weather. Nice shape and space but the same old issues of other hubbas imho.

    I’m glad I found this video- very informative. I have an old F10 nitro 200+ which is the older version of this (same basic design and weight) but unfortunately after a prolonged period in storage I found it was completely knackered (seam tape flaking off and inner silicone coating turned to a sort of powder..). A bit gutted really as it was always packed away completely dry, and it was the most expensive tent I’d ever bought. I have older and much cheaper tents still in good useable condition. So I’ve still yet to decide if I will fork out £400 odd for a UL2+..

      Thanks Taunton Leisure. Yes possibly but i take great care of all my tents and it was always store at home in a cool and dry place. I suspect the very lightweight fabric didn’t like being rolled up tightly in its stuff sack. My heavier tents are absolutely fine. In future with something like this I will store it loose in a shopping bag or something. I’ll let you know first if I decide to purchase one of these but at the moment they all £400+. Let me know your absolute best price.. 😉

    How aggressive is the tapering towards the middle or bottom? I'd like the wide version but worried it won't fit alongside my rectangular Stratosphere 5.5 (64cm) in my 115cm wide tent. Does the ultrawide tapering slim down to 51cm quite quickly or should I just stick with the regular version? Thanks!

    • @tauntonleisure
      @tauntonleisure 8 дней назад

      Morning, Thank you for your comment. The taper is relatively aggressive on on the Ionosphere and starts immediately from the shoulders. However to my knowledge the wide is 64cm at its widest point witch would make it to wide to be used with your Stratosphere. I hope this helps

    If you are a guy with broad shoulders and chest like myself I wouldn’t recommend this jacket as it is not a traditional regular fit, it’s a slim fit. I have Patagonia lightweight down and synthetic jackets in a large and they fit me perfectly. I ordered a large online after seeing good reviews but it is unwearable as it is way too tight across the chest and the torso.

    Nice video Stuart. I have the radon 1 . Camped in it a few nights so far .and I love it .the materials and design of these tents is brilliant love the space and its features .the quality is also spot on .I agree with most you said except you feel its a 2 season tent . I'd have to disagree .it's very solid in the wind and that's before you clip in the internal tbx guy system .then there is the option to use walking poles inside the door to strengthen the top crossing pole .with its simple to use pole pockets .low fly and perfect placement of mesh /solid is a perfect balance for 3 /4 seasons. Very water proof also as I had 8 hrs of hard rain on mine and not a drop of ingress .for the price I think msr /big agnes have lost this battle totally .beaten at there own game .

    Hi Taunton Leisure, I walked 20-30km a day for 3 weeks straight with the Talon 44l backpack with about 10kg in it (11-12kg including bag) however, each day at some point it would start to feel like it carved into my shoulders. The chest buckle and the hip belt could alleviate some of the pain but only for some time so I had to go from tightening to tightening further, then loosening and combining these adjustments to make it through each day. When I saw Osprey released this new version, it was my hope that the wide shoulder straps would alleviate the pressure on the shoulders but ironically it seems that you Sir and other people in the comment section suggest the old Talon for carrying heavier loads - maybe because it has an internal frame and back padding. That's a little disappointing though because it is broadly known that the Talon 44l has an issue with shoulder pain from the straps when reaching the 10kg mark. What is Osprey doing to tackle this issue? It makes sense that a broader surface of the shoulder straps distributes the load better onto shoulders and chest but it seems this precise area where this version excels is also where it falls flat. Why couldn't a framed Osprey backpack have these broader shoulder straps? Why can't this version be framed? Why couldn't the broader shoulder straps simultaneously be more cushioned?

    • @tauntonleisure
      @tauntonleisure 29 дней назад

      Thank you for your comment. I'm sorry to hear that you've struggled with your Talon 44L! I'll do my best to address your concerns. Regarding the Talon Velocity, this pack was specifically designed for fast and light activities. Adding a frame to the Velocity would compromise its intended use by making it less comfortable for running and fast-paced activities. The wider shoulder straps on the Velocity are a new design for Osprey, and they haven't yet had the opportunity to apply them to other packs in their range. However, this style of harness is expected to be adapted to other packs in the near future, and will be tailored to fit the load ranges of those packs. As for cushioning, the lack of additional foam is intentional to keep the pack breathable and comfortable for running or fast movement. When Osprey releases hiking or long-distance trekking packs with a similar harness system, they will likely include more cushioning to accommodate the desire to carry more weight. Regarding the discomfort you experienced with the Talon 44, carrying 11-12kg puts you at the upper limit of this pack's load range. Given the impressive distances you were covering, this discomfort may be a result of the pack being pushed to its limits over extended periods. Without seeing how the pack was fitted, it’s difficult to determine a definitive cause for the issue. If you have any further questions or need additional assistance, please feel free to reach out.

    Is there somewhere to put a laptop?

    • @tauntonleisure

      There is no dedicated laptop sleave as its not that type of pack. however, you could fit a 15" laptop in the bag if you wished.

    Need an inner tent for the 15. Wood like to see a stove with windows like the Bereg stoves.

    Tjena Tjena pojkar! I do like tentipi but they need to release a tent that is actually light enough for 1 person to carry solo.

    These stretchy pockets are what intrigued me. I'm able to fit my Haven Tent hammock and Grayl Geopress in the front pocket, pad and Helinox Zero in the side pockets, tarp rolled up in the bottom straps, swagman roll or light quilt in the bag with my food and other gear. All in all around 20lbs. If they make a 40L, I'm going to be one of the first to buy it.

    I bought a pair of these from ago Outdoors a couple of weeks ago, as I am getting over a fractured 5 th metatarsal. They are great boots with the slightly wider fit. I use them for work, as a gardener. Expensive, but when it comes to your feet, no one should be afraid of spending the money on them, as you are on them most of your life. I expect them to last me around a year, if I am lucky. All the best.👍🏾

    Had the first night out in mine the other night, on top of a hill. I didn’t think I’d get on with the low ceiling height after putting it up in the garden, but it really wasn’t a problem out in the wild! However, Vango have clearly lied about the height of this tent - as I measure it at only 88cm (should be 95cm) in the centre! I’d describe it as spacious but cosy… It reminds me of the dens I used to make as a kid with it being low in height, and I love it for that.. It’s such a great colour for wild camping too, now my new favourite shelter out of the 8 I now own! 😎👍🏻

      That's a great insight for anyone looking to get this tent! Thank you so much for the feedback
